Introduction

news.sonews.org is a public news server that allows users to read and post articles in various (but currently limited number of) newsgroups. It is a testbench for the sonews Usenet Server software.

Connecting

To connect to news.sonews.org, you will need a newsreader client. Here are the steps to configure your newsreader:

  1. Open your newsreader client, e.g. Thunderbird.
  2. Add a new news server with the address news.sonews.org .
  3. Specify the port if necessary (default is 119 for NNTP).
  4. Please note that news.sonews.org is only availabe via IPv6.

Available Newsgroups

To see a list of available newsgroups, connect to the news server using your newsreader and request a list of newsgroups. There is a test groups where you can test your newsclient and the server:
